We continued reading over The rock pile by James Baldwin. In the writing Roy went to the rock pile and he got cut by a tin can on his fore head. His parents were mad because it was really close to his eye and he was not supposed to be there, but they were also worried because he had been hurt. We also learned that john the oldest did not have the same last name because he was born before his mom and dad were married. This is surprising given how religious his parents are.

We read through the part of the rock pile. It is written by James Baldwin wrote this it is about his child hood. It is about how there was a rock pile kids played at that he was not allowed to go to. This is like what it was like when I was younger I was not allowed to go outside of my yard by myself for awhile because it was somewhat dangerous. But like in the the book I did it and got in trouble.

Today we had a test on the Langston Hughes poems we read. After that we went over the questions. I feel like I should have don better I should have wrote down some more of the stuff that we did on the papers. I also feel like I should have read the answer choices more closely because it would have helped me answer the questions more accurately. I think if I had done these things and maybe read over the poems before hand which I did not do because I did no know we had a test I could have got a higher score.

To day we did a worksheet on the poem Mother to son by Langston Hughes. It asked us questions like the topic and tone of the poem. I said the topic is that life is only kinda hard, and that the tone is supposed to be inspirational. It also asked us about the themes of the poems. I thought the first theme was life is not easy but also not hard and the Sri d theme is you have to keep on living and the.

Today we learned about another poem by Langston Hughes called Mother to son. It is a poem that says life is only kinda hard and that no matter matter what happens to keep on going. This sits right with me because I have learned and had it happen many tines where life gets hard but I kept on living and I realize it got better and is not really as hard anymore. We also talked about some advice someone gave us that stuck with us. For me it was my dad telling me not to be good at one thing but at everything because that will help you more then being great at one thing.

Today we wrote down a few thing like something people think about you that isn’t true. We also wrote down like what America meant to us. Then we read through The poem I TOO by Langston Hughes and went through what he meant by it. What he meant was he was just as American as any white person. I feel like what he was saying is true because it is not about skin color.

We did the 9 questions about the poem Langston Hughes wrote. I feel like they helped me understand more about the poem. Most of the questions were about the rivers. They were stuff like when he used the congo to show the start of man kind. Then he used the Mississippi to represent the end of slavery in America.

We learned about Langston Hughes’s poem THE NEGRO SPEAKS OF RIVERS. He uses rivers to Africa from Congo which he uses to describe the beginning. Then he uses the Nile which uses to represent the start of slavery and then he uses the Mississippi River to represent the more modern slavery in the country he lives in. He also shows the end of it when he says “I’ve seen it’s muddy bosom turn all holes in the sunset.” I feel like in this poem that he is talking about the beginning and ending of slavery and Also the end of slavery in America.
